New Year's Eve in the mountains

You have to live this kind of day

The New Year's Eve is approaching and everyone knows that. It is a day that says goodbye to old stories and welcomes new ones. Each of us wants to spend it in an unusual way. There are many options, but my favourite is a trip to the mountains.

I think it is something else so New Year's Eve in the mountains will definitely be an unforgettable event. What attractions are waiting for us? There is a lot of them. More than in a club or house. Except for walking and mountain hiking, it is also worth organizing a common bonfire, a sleigh ride in a mountain sledge with torches, playing on mountain slopes, integrating on the ice, going to the thermal baths or aquapark. With the youngest you can also go on a sled.

For people who want to spend the day more actively than just dancing or talking I recommend spending the New Year's Eve on the slopes! All skiing lovers have the opportunity to welcome the New Year by going on prepared routes. Illuminated slopes, dances and songs, bars and restaurants open all night will make the farewell of the Old Year unique!

Santa Claus' village

Santa Claus' village

Lapland is a place known for the legend of Saint Nicholas. I think most of us know Santa Claus isn't real. But it doesn't mean we don't have to see this place.

  • Where is it?

Lapland is the largest and northernmost region of Finland
Lapland borders the region of Northern Ostrobothniain the south. It also borders the Gulf of BothniaNorrbotten County in SwedenFinnmark County and Troms County in Norway, and Murmansk Oblast and the Republic of Karelia in Russia

The main headquarters of Saint Nicholas is located in Rovaniemi. Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland in the north of Finland and just below the Arctic Circle. Santa Claus' village is located 8 km from the city center. This village look like a farm and  there is a wonderful and magical atmosphere.

  • Post of Santa Claus

To the address: Tähtikuja 1, Rovaniemi 96930 Arctic Circle in Lapland comes to over half a million letters a year. The largest amount of letters comes from the United Kingdom , China and Japan. There are elves, not ordinary officials. When you are there you can also send a letter straight from this place.

  • Office of Santa Claus

This is the place where you can meet with Santa Claus. Remember you don't have to wait for the winter. He also receives guests at other seasons of the year. Unfortunately if you want to take a photo with him you will pay for it. But meeting and talking with him are free.

  • A ride around the village

Apart above attractions you can ride on a snowmobile or a team of reindeer or husky dogs. You can race around dark wintery forests and across frozen lakes lit only by your headlight beams. During this ride you will see the amazing views but you should also keep a lookout for the magical Northern Lights overhead as you ride. The Northern Lights are one of nature's most spectacular phenomenons and Lapland is the perfect destination to witness the magic for yourself. On average the Aurora Borealis appear in the sky around 200 times per year.
